MEDIABOX

mediabox

Mediabox, the fund that brings together hard to reach 13-19 year olds from diverse backgrounds to work together creatively on media projects from film and radio to games and other interactive media, is taking applications with a total of £8.25million of funding available nationwide over 2 years.

Mediabox is not currently open for new applications, subject to a review of the scheme by the Department of Education. This page will be updated with more news as it arrives.

**Mediabox has announced big changes to its Mini Mediabox grant, giving more organisations from across the country access to funding for youth-led media projects. Click here to find out more**

Mediabox enables young people the chance to gain new skills, express their opinions and get their voices heard and has funded over £719,000 of activity in Yorkshire since it began in 2006. If you are an individual or an organisation with a youth-focused media project, then Mediabox could help you with funding and give young people the chance to work together creatively on media projects - whether that be in film and TV, radio, print, digital media or interactive media and games.

Mini Mediabox is currently the only funding strand open to applications. Mini Mediabox is a fast track strand with a rolling deadline and awards of up to £5,000.

For full guidelines on each of the Mediabox strands visit the Mediabox website but please bear in mind the basic criteria, which states that all projects must:

- Be youth-led
- Involve hard-to-reach young people
- Involve positive representations of young people

"The Stage 2 training day was very useful. I was well informed in a friendly manner, listened to and offered advice. It gave me a clear understanding of what is expected of us. It was also ideally paced - very welcoming and supportive.'' Mediabox applicant, June 2009

Northern Ning Network

To encourage peer-to-peer support, we now have a dedicated online forum set up for Mediabox awardees across the North of England. If you are successful in getting to stage 2 in the funding process* you will be invited to share your experiences with other successful applicants and where appropriate, be attached to a mentor who has delivered a Mediabox project in the same media type.

The Ning allows you to be kept informed about Mediabox updates as well as find out about Mediabox events happening throughout the North. You will also be able to network with other Mediabox awardees and Stage 2 applicants to share best practice and offer and receive advice and guidance from others delivering Mediabox projects.

*Please note there is no stage 2 in the Mini Mediabox strand. You will be invited to join if you are successful.
