A truly unique and historic city, York is renowned for its Roman, Viking, and Medieval heritage, exquisite architecture and wealth of attractions - such as the iconic York Minster (the largest Gothic Cathedral north of the Alps); the National Railway Museum, York Dungeon, Jorvik Viking Centre, City Walls and nearby Castle Howard. York is a city of contrasts and exciting discoveries, with heritage taverns to lure you in from quaint cobbled streets alongside the modern bars and cafes on the banks of the River Ouse. Reputedly the most haunted city in Europe, filmmakers might get a little more than bargained for...and if you need any further convincing of its charm, the Shambles in York was voted Britain's Most Picturesque Street in a poll conducted earlier this year.
