STUDIO 81, LEEDS
Studio 81 - Leeds Production Centre is the first out of London facility to be dedicated to Independent Productions. It was created by indies...for indies...and has everything needed for smooth running and economical drama production. Since opening in 2006, Studio 81 has hosted a wide range of high profile productions that have filmed in the region, including; The Chase 1 & 2 (Rollem), Strictly Confidential (Rollem), White Girl (Tiger Aspect), Lost in Austen (Mammoth Screen), The Damned United (Left Bank Pictures), Wuthering Heights (Mammoth Screen), The Red Riding Trilogy (Revolution Films), A Passionate Woman (Rollem Productions), Ways to Live Forever (Life & Soul Productions), D.O.A.(Channel X), The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister (Oxford Film & Television), Pulse (World Productions) and Married Single Other (Left Bank Pictures) and Five Days- Series 2 (BBC Drama Productions), both screening currently on ITV and BBC1.
There are 3 separate production suites...each conveniently divided into offices for between 1 and 6 people so that all aspects of production can work privately but still interact efficiently and effortlessly. Each office is equipped with desks (or drawing boards), chairs, shelving and telephones. Each suite has its own kitchen and toilets, telephone system, fax and wireless broadband. The communal reception area has 2 meeting rooms with front door parking for key staff and visitors and an adjoining contract car park.
The main Studio is 1,470m2 (16,000sq ft) with make-up, costume and equipment rooms. The second studio - B Stage, is being adapted for commercials and green screen work. Alongside are construction workshops, prop stores and a full sized unit base - ideal for accessing city centre locations. Studio 81 Post Production is now offering on and off-line edit suites, track laying and CGI, and will be developing further this year.
Studio 81's aim is to establish a thriving centre for independent film and television production in the North of England...to attract established independent drama producers and to create an environment to encourage new start-ups and industry growth.
LOCATION
The Production Centre is a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from Leeds City Train Station (2 hrs from Kings Cross) and the facilities that have helped make Leeds one of the UK's favourite cities. It offers easy access to the motorway network and Yorkshire's host of filmic locations. And of course, the simplified logistics of filming out of London give valuable extra on-camera hours each day.
