BAF Game 10/11 Nov - Game Republic events (03/11/2009)
Bradford Animation Festival's popular splinter strand dedicated to exploring the overlaps between the worlds of video games, animation, and film returns for 2009. Now in its fifth year, BAF Game is organised in strong partnership with the University of Bradford and Screen Yorkshire's Game Republic.
Running over two days, BAF Game will feature talks, discussions, screenings and workshops led by industry experts that explore the creative side of gaming in all its forms.

Game Republic and Rockstar Leeds Student Showcase
Tuesday 10 November, 3.30pm, Pictureville Cinema, National Media Museum
In May 2009 Game Republic invited students to demonstrate their latest games course projects. Attracting more than seventy students from seven Yorkshire and Humber universities and colleges, awards were given for Game Design, Game Technology, Game Art and Best Team. In addition to a cash prize, the first prize winners of the Best Team award secured a summer work placement at Rockstar Leeds, the developer behind Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
BAF Game is pleased to be joined by Jamie Sefton, sector manager for Game Republic and Ian Bowden, Art Director at Rockstar Leeds to talk about the winning projects.
The Game Republic Round-Up: How to start your own games studio
Wednesday 11 November, 4.20pm, The Great Hall, University of Bradford
Have you ever dreamed of going it alone, being your own boss and starting your own games company? This panel discussion brings together business owners from different realms of the gaming industry to offer advice on how to overcome the hurdles of starting your own independent studio.
The panel will be chaired by Alex Wiltshire, online editor of Edge Magazine. Other panelists include Sean Murray, managing director of Hello Games, Stuart Varrall, Creative Director of iPhone developer Fluid Pixel Studios, Simon Barratt director of indie game and middleware developer Four Door Lemon and Pete McClory, director of multimedia design agency Panoetic.
This concluding session will be followed by a drinks and networking reception kindly sponsored by Game Republic.
