Screenhouse Productions pick up second international award (16/04/2008)
Leeds based Screenhouse productions has picked up its second international award for their moving film, "The Hidden Children", transmitted as part of the BBC 2 History series Timewatch. The film picked up the Gold Award in the History Documentary category at the World Media Festival in Hamburg. Earlier in the year the production company was honoured with the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle for the film at a ceremony in Washington D.C. "The Hidden Children" was directed by Jon Hacker with development supported by funding from Screen Yorkshire.
The film tells the story of 4 Jewish children who were forced into hiding in France in World War Two after their parents were taken to concentration camps. Among the survivors featured was Leeds woman Suzanne Rappoport . Together with the 3 other "hidden" children from the USA, France and Israel the film followed them as they re-visited some of the places where they hid for their lives. Their moving eye witness accounts showed that Jewish people in France, young and old had as much to fear from the French authorities and police as they did from the Nazis.
Creative Director Paul Bader said, "We are delighted that Screenhouse's film has yet again brought our company international acclaim, competing and succeeding against some of the best documentary makers in the world".
