The Bram Stoker International Film Festival (14 - 17 October 2010)
The second annual Bram Stoker International Film Festival takes place in Whitby this October showcasing a diverse selection of feature film premires and innovative short films on the cutting edge, including acclaimed new Independent and International horror, sci-fi, fantasy, action, animation and offbeat works from across the UK, North America, Australia Europe and Asia.The four-day festival, which took its inspiration from author Bram Stoker, the creator of Dracula, and fully endorsed by the Stoker family, is designed to promote innovative, independent and International genre films in front of audiences who would otherwise never get the chance to see these works in a theatrical setting.The event's debut last year received fantastic reviews with festival-goers saying they were thrilled at how well organised and professional it was and best-selling author Graham Taylor hailing it as "one of the most important events to come to Whitby in the past 50 years".
Whitby Pavilion, where the event takes place, underwent an amazing transformation to create an atmosphere of suspense and thrill for the crowds who attended. This is the original Victorian theatre Bram Stoker spent many hours producing stage plays, and who knows. maybe he penned pages for his world famous novel Dracula in your theatre seat! The festival promises to be bigger and better than last year with more than 40 films being shown.
It is anticipated that the Bram Stoker International Film Festival will become the biggest and favourite genre festival in Europe in the not to distant future. Special guests this year will include Director of cult film the Wicker Man, Robin Hardy, and Producer and Chairman of British Lion Films Mr Peter Snell. Scream Queen Emily Booth, Hammer's countess dracula and Queen of horror Ingrid Pitt, former Bond girls Caroline Munro and Martine Beswick, Lock Stock actress Vera Day and several others.This season the festival have introducesd awards for filmmakers and two special achievement awards for the Wicker Man movie and Hammer Films.A further treat for film fans will be the opportunity to Q & A a panel of special guest speakers from the film world. We also have a few surprises lined up.....
The backbone of the festival is the Hammer Exhibition featuring a huge selection of film memorabillia, props, posters and never before seen relics from the world famous Hammer Horror studios. We belive this to be the biggest Hammer Exhibition ever to be seen.
The festival will also play host to the European Vampire Ball, the biggest of it's kind in Europe! Featuring live music, a fifty strong choir singing to Frankenstien, D J`s, Burlesque and to quench your thirst a fountain of blood, every Vampire fan needs to attend this event!
