'In Our Name' – In Cinemas and available to download now! (10/12/2010)
Screen Yorkshire is very excited to congratulate former employee Michelle Eastwood on the release of her first feature as sole producer. In Our Name (Escape Films) was released at Curzon Cinemas & through the brand new Curzon On Demand service on Friday 10th December. The filmmakers received a welcome boost ahead of the release earlier this month, when Whitby actress Joanne Frogatt (Downton Abbey) was awarded a British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her outstanding performance as lead actress.
Brief Synopsis
Suzy is a British soldier, born and bred, but fitting back into civilian life after fighting in Iraq isn't easy. Haunted by the responsibility she feels for the death of an Iraqi child, she becomes obsessed with the safety of her own daughter, feeling the need to protect her against a threat that doesn't seem to exist. As Suzy's paranoia builds, her behaviour becomes more and more erratic, until she starts to put her own child in serious danger.
Michelle, who runs Escape films with her producing partner, Purnima Ramadorai, has had remarkable success since working in the production liaison team at Screen Yorkshire in 2006 where she supported features including Like Minds and Exhibit A. She cut her teeth as producer on The Projectionist, commissioned on Screen Yorkshire’s Digital Shorts programme in 2007. In 2008 she was BAFTA nominated for short film, Hesitation. In 2009 Michelle was named by Screen International as a Star of Tomorrow and also by Edinburgh International Film Festival as a Trailblazer. 2010 saw the release of the BAFTA-nominated hit Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, which Michelle co-produced. In Our Name is Michelle's first feature as sole producer.
In Our Name, written and directed by Brian Welsh, is released on Friday 10th December on limited release but also nationwide via Curzon On Demand.
