2Weeks 2Make It 2011 - Open for Submissions (07/03/2011)

2Weeks 2Make It is a ground-breaking music video competition that randomly matches filmmakers with musicians, who collaborate to make a music video, from start to finish, in two weeks. There are great prizes: a cash prize, a record distribution contract, some development awards for musicians and great ‘2Weeks 2Make It’ beer from Peak Ales, and more!  Competitors will make their NEW films over approximately two weeks, in preparation for a Gala Competition Screening of all the work in late May / early June 2011.

Those who are selected will be invited to a launch event taking place at the Sensoria festival of music and film in Sheffield on 5th May, 2011, at the Showroom / Workstation complex – see more about Sensoria on www.sensoria.org.uk

There will be some great training sessions and masterclasses aimed at both filmmakers and musicians. The day will provide all with more guidance as to how to get music videos made and the most out of your budget, how to make them look great, and what clichés to avoid. In the evening, that's when all the competitors need to be present - because it is when we randomly match you up with your band/filmmaker who you'll be working with over the next couple of weeks! That's when we say, 'GOOD LUCK! You've got 2WEEKS 2MAKE IT!!'.

You can see more information about the competitions and a very handy little film documentary that explains how it works in detail here:  http://www.syfn.org/2weeks.html. Deadline for submissions: 29th April 2011

The 2009 winning filmmaker, Richard Bolam of film team Electric Chaos, said this of his experience:

'It was an incredibly productive experience - what we learned in two weeks you would take two years to learn otherwise. We think the experience is the sort of thing that sorts out the men from the boys - the team we started with was not the team we finished with. In terms of the actual content, when we decided to take on the animation idea for 'I Am A' by Yo Yo Static and the Shockettes, we knew we had to learn it all as we went along, as we're not animators. But we're very happy with the result - it has certainly raised our profile, and it was interesting how, once we had entered, we very badly wanted to win. When our names were read out at the competition screening, it was completely exhilarating'.

The 2009 winning band, Yo Yo Static and the Shockettes, was signed as a result of winning the competition and received a chart registered release through Circuit Records (a Higher Rhythm Company), the distribution of which goes through iTunes and approx 600 other online stores. Richard Bolam and Electric Chaos received £1000.00 towards the production of a feature-length music videoscape for musician ‘Sieben’ (Matt Howden), who you can find out more about on http://www.matthowden.com/.
