A Tall order for Yorkshire Weavers (14/01/2011)

A little bit of Yorkshire has been exported to Hollywood, as Haworth-based specialist clothing manufacturer Wyedean Weaving Company has been called upon to supply costumes for the ‘giant’ blockbuster GULLIVERS TRAVELS, which was released in the UK on Boxing Day.

Cinema-goers should look out for the Wyedean’s costumes worn by the film’s 300-strong armies – half in red and half in blue – with a Victorian slant to the Lillputian side. The company was selected to supply costumes for Pinewood costumes department for Twentieth Century Fox back in 2009.

Wyedean Weaving is located in the heart of West Yorkshire’s Brontë country in the beautiful village of Haworth, which has a centuries-long history of textile manufacturing. Haworth itself is no stranger to film crews, as its unmistakable narrow cobbled streets have played host to numerous productions over the years such as The Railway Children, Wild Child and Rita, Sue and Bob Too.

Although the company’s staple business is the supply of ceremonial accoutrements, braids and laces to the UK Ministry of Defence and British Police Forces, Wyedean Weaving also boasts an impressive list of production credits for which it has supplied specialist costumes, including Master and Commander and The Mummy.

Starring Jack Black in the title role, GULLIVER'S TRAVELS is a twenty-first century take on Jonathan Swift’s novel of the same name. Emily Blunt (Princess Mary), Jason Segel (Horatio), Billy Connolly (King Theodore) and Catherine Tate (Queen Isabelle) star alongside Black in supporting roles. The film is now in cinemas worldwide.
