Channel 4 launches Alpha Fund (15/04/2011)

Channel 4 has launched its new £2m Alpha Fund to invest in the next generation of creative content and innovation.

The Alpha Fund is designed to support ideas, talent and emergent companies, and to enrich Channel 4’s reputation for creativity. It is a unique fund supporting our diversity of supply by providing outstanding talent with a route of entry into an increasingly competitive commercial media environment. Susie Wright, Media Project Manager, launched the Alpha Fund within Yorkshire at the recent TV Club in York.

The Alpha Fund can support new start-ups, regionally-based companies, projects with diverse talent attached and grassroots innovation. It is designed to kick-start original ideas that can grow in scale and ambition.

The Alpha Fund has been structured to offer ease of access and an uncomplicated process with dedicated editorial support. There’s no application system or complex process, no website, your first point of call should be to set up a meeting with a Media Project Manager to discuss your idea.

  • the Alpha Fund is about commissioning development based on ideas, first and foremost, at grassroots level across all genres and platforms.
  • the Alpha Fund is not looking for any specific subject, Channel 4 wants you to come to us with your best projects in the classic commissioning style;
  • your ideas must be clearly targeted at Channel 4 – its audience, its values, and that they “feel” 4 in ambition and focus.
  • there is no limitation on size or scale of company, but you do need to be a company.
