Drama is in the air for Spring 2010 (25/01/2010)
The spring 2010 schedules have been unveiled, revealing a crop of indigenous drama production for the discerning Yorkshire couch potato to look forward to. Hotly anticipated romantic comedy drama Married Single Other is coming up on ITV and The Extraordinary Miss Lister, Five Days and A Passionate Woman are lined up for the BBC. All of the dramas were filmed at locations across the region, supported by Screen Yorkshire.
Married Single Other (Left Bank Pictures) is a new romantic comedy drama filmed on location around Leeds for ITV. Amanda Abbington, Lucy Davis, Shaun Dooley, Dean Lennox Kelly, Ralf Little and Miranda Raison star in the six-parter, which marks the renewal of a partnership between Screen Yorkshire and Left Bank Pictures following the success of their shoot for The Damned United in the region in 2008. A Passionate Woman, starring Billie Piper and Sue Johnston, tells the story of a young wife and mother who falls in love with her Polish neighbour in 1950s Britain, only for her affair to implode 30 years later on her son's wedding day. Rollem Productions filmed this feature length adaptation of Kay Mellor's highly successful play around their home city of Leeds in 2009. There will be a 2x90 minute version broadcast on BBC 1, with a feature film version released more widely. More
Maxine Peake (Shameless, Criminal Justice, Red Riding) stars in The Extraordinary Lister, a bold and passionate drama for BBC Two. Anne Lister (1791-1840), dubbed ‘the first modern lesbian', was a Yorkshire landowner, industrialist, traveller and diarist. Her truly extraordinary life forms the basis for this one-off 90-minute drama with accompanying documentary, which filmed at authentic locations in Yorkshire in 2009. More
Five Days - Suranne Jones and David Morrissey star in this gripping new drama, which returns for its second series this spring. A tiny newborn baby is abandoned in the toilets of a Yorkshire hospital. At the same time, the Trans-Pennine commuter train is halted by a suicidal jumper. Are they connected? Five Days was filmed on location in Leeds, Wakefield and Dewsbury throughout summer 2009. More
