LIFF OPENS ON 4TH NOVEMBER WITH 'THE KING'S SPEECH' (11/10/2010)

The Leeds International Film Festival opens on 4th November with the hugely anticipated British drama The King's Speech. Fresh from critical triumph at its world premiere screenings at Toronto International Film Festival, where the film also won the prestigious People's Choice Award,' The King's Speech will have an exclusive screening at Leeds International Film Festival ahead of its UK release in January.  

Screen Yorkshire provided ongoing crew and locations support during the Yorkshire leg of the The King's Speech, which filmed partly at the Bradford Bulls Stadium and Leeds United's Elland Road employing regional crew and featuring hundreds of local extras in period costume.

Since this year’s programme has been announced there has been an overwhelming demand for the screening of The King's Speech and festival organisers can now announce that it has been selected to fill one of the Film Festival Favourite screening slots.
The extra screening of the hugely anticipated British drama will be at 4pm on Saturday 20th November in Hyde Park Picture House. The city's premier art-house cinema has a smaller capacity than Leeds Town Hall so we anticipate that tickets won't last long, buy yours now to ensure that you won't miss out! The long awaited premiere of Leeds/Iraqi film Son of Babylon takes place at LIFF on Friday 5th November at the Hyde Park Picture House. Son of Babylon, directed by Mohamed Al-Daradji and produced by Human Film was supported by Screen Yorkshire's Production Fund. It has screened at film festivals across the globe this year to critical acclaim, picking up an impressive array of awards along the way. Son of Babylon, which has also been selected as Iraq's official entry for the foreign language Oscar at the 2011 Academy Awards, has just been nominated for the Raindance award at the 2010 BIFAs.
