NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE COMES TO THE GALTRES ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE ON 30TH JUNE (23/06/2011)

The Galtres Entertainment Centre in Easingwold, North Yorkshire is one of the first non city-centre venues in the UK to join the increasingly popular National Theatre Live programme, which broadcasts the Best of British theatre live to cinemas around the world. The new entertainment facility has been enhanced with a state of the art satellite system thanks to support from North Yorkshire Digital Cinema, enabling it to bring previously unattainable programmes such as National Theatre Live direct to the local community.

Following an incredibly successful opening season, featuring a number of sell out live events including Donmar Warehouse's King Lear and The Nutcracker Live from the Bolshoi, The Cherry Orchard, National Theatre Live is the latest in an exciting programme of world class live performance events to be broadcast at The Galtres Entertainment Centre, on Thursday 30th June at 7pm.

In a version by Andrew Upton, with Zoë Wanamaker as Ranyevskaya, The Cherry Orchard is next in the series of National Theatre Live broadcasts to cinemas and performing arts venues around the world. Directed by Howard Davies, 'Britain's most consistently satisfying interpreter of Russian drama' (London Evening Standard), the production will be filmed live at the National's Olivier Theatre and broadcast to screens in the UK and Europe on Thursday 30th June at 7pm.

Emily Penn, Project Manager, North Yorkshire Digital Cinema, says:
''Thanks to advances in technology, the trend for live content broadcast has really taken off in recent years, extending affordable access to world class music, theatre, ballet and opera performances to audiences at cinemas around the UK and beyond. Up until this point, however, programmes such as National Theatre Live have remained limited to larger commercial screens, almost always located in city centres.''

''North Yorkshire Digital Cinema identified an opportunity to extend provision of live event programmes through installation of satellite broadcast systems to venues in the county and Galtres Entertainment Centre became our first alternative content host venue last autumn. Working closely with the fantastic team in Easingwold, our programme has proved to be a smash hit with audiences, with a number of performances selling out and we hope to extend the programme to other venues throughout North Yorkshire in 2011.''

For booking, call: 01347 822472 (Adults - £12 - 16 and under £11.) The performance runs 3 hours, including pre-show and interval. Previous live broadcast events have sold out so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

From Stately homes to village halls, music festivals to theatres, North Yorkshire Digital Cinema is working with partners and venues across the county to bring the very latest film releases and live events to communities in North Yorkshire, welcoming more than 9000 individuals to over 100 screening events since its launch in October 2010.
