Screen Yorkshire's Nicky Ball wins RTS Yorkshire 'Unsung Hero' Award (14/06/2011)
Nicky Ball, Screen Yorkshire's Crew and Freelance development Manager, won the 'Unsung Hero of the Year' Award at the RTS Yorkshire Annual Awards last night. The award is given to those who tirelessly work behind the scenes to support the industry. Nicky's role at Screen Yorkshire involves supporting crew and facilities companies to get work via her contact with productions along with organising crew networking nights and training events, delivering careers sessions for new talent and university students, managing Screen Yorkshire's crew and facilities database and giving CV advice.
Nicky has been at Screen Yorkshire for eight years and prior to this worked at ITV Yorkshire. She has supported numerous Yorkshire crew in getting work and building careers in the region.
Sally Joynson, Chief Executive at Screen Yorkshire, said: "There can be few people who more tirelessly and positively devote themselves to supporting other people’s careers than Nicky Ball. I’ve worked with her for many years now and the energy with which she tries to support everyone from a new entrant to an established grip or cameraman is inspiring and vital to Screen Yorkshire – there are hundreds of crew who have received work thanks to Nicky. We often joke in the office that our crew database is actually Nicky’s brain as she has such a knowledge and understanding of Yorkshire’s crew base. It’s fantastic that the RTS and industry have recognised all the work Nicky has put into supporting the industry in Yorkshire, well done Nicky."
Other winners included True North who won Best Indie; South Ridings, which won Best Drama; Calendar won Best News Programme; Lisa Holdsworth claimed Best Writer; Andy and Jonathon Dobson won a brace of awards for their post production servicesand Kay Mellor won Lifetime Achievement Award.
