Screen Yorkshire is very excited to announce that highly esteemed screenwriter Tony Grisoni (Red Riding, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) joins the line up of leading industry figures for ‘Show Me The Money’, a one day conference exploring new financing and production strategies for the low budget filmmaker. Tony will discuss his path to career success as a screenwriter and reflect on the challenges currently facing the industry in a session entitled Fear & Loathing in British Film.’

Show Me The Money, which takes place at Leeds College of Music & Northern Ballet Leeds on 17th February, brings a formidable list of speakers from across the UK Film Industry, including: Elliot Grove - founder of the Raindance Film Festival, Piers Tempest - Salt (International Sales Agent) & Tempo Production, Isabelle Stead - Company Director, Human Film, Sarah Mosses, Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation, Ramón Calderón, Riot Cinema Collective, The Cosmonaut and David Nicolas Wilkinson, Guerilla Films, Saif Chaudhry, Stereografix and Mike Gubbins, Film Analyst & Ex-Screen International Editor.

The day of sessions will close with a screening of Red Riding: In The Year Of Our Lord 1980 followed by a screentalk. Adapted by Toni Grisoni from local author David Peace's cult noir novels, The Red Riding Trilogy (Revolution Films) achieved critical acclaim when the series of films screened on Channel 4 in 2009, before going on to achieve box office success at cinemas across the globe. The films were shot in the region in 2008 with funding and logistical support from Screen Yorkshire.

Show Me The Money is aimed at filmmakers making shorts and low-budget feature films that want to increase their market awareness and understanding of technologies in order to raise their game and/or progress to making first feature films. Industry led sessions will take the filmmaker on a journey, from how to develop a creative project for a specific audience, through traditional and new methods of raising finance for production, to having the edge over competition in the marketing stakes. Participants will also have an opportunity to attend a range of workshops focusing on low budget production methods.

Hugo Heppell, Head of Production at Screen Yorkshire, says: ‘’Any successful filmmaker will tell you that many incredible ideas don’t make it to the screen because projects hit a wall when it comes to the finance. As the funding landscape for film enters a period of immense change and uncertainty, there’s never been a more pertinent time to regroup and debate the current challenges facing filmmakers in the UK today.

Whether you’re a producer, screenwriter or director, just starting out in your career or already established, our line up of leading industry specialists will arm you with the latest insider skills and knowledge and give you the best possible chance of getting your project off the ground.’’
