Yorkshire productions win at BAFTAs (23/05/2011)
Two television productions filmed throughout Yorkshire claimed awards at the BAFTAs last night at London’s Grosvenor House.
Vicky McClure won the Leading Actress award for her role as Lol in This is England ’86 which filmed in Sheffield. Screen Yorkshire backed the films through its Production Fund and supported Sheffield-based Warp Films to crew up locally for the shoot.
Steve Coogan won best Male Performance in a Comedy Role for The Trip (Revolution Films for BBC2) which documented his trip through the English countryside with co-star Rob Brydon. The Trip, showcased some of the most stunning locations and finest restaurants across Craven District and the Yorkshire Dales and received locations and crewing support from Screen Yorkshire.
Alan Almond won Best Photogrpahy and Lighting BAFTA for South Riding in the craft awards.

I’d like to congratulate the winners and all those who worked on these productions."
This is England ’86 also received nominations for Johnny Harris as Supporting Actor (cast as Lol’s father, Mick). This Is England ’86 is available now on DVD. Fans can look forward to follow up This is England 88, which filmed in Sheffield earlier this year, on Channel 4 in winter 2011.
Other BAFTA nominations for productions filmed in Yorkshire were for Anna Maxwell Martin in the Leading Actress category who played Sarah Burton in BBC’s stunning period drama South Riding. Based on the novels of forward thinking Yorkshire writer Winifred Holtby (1898 – 1935), South Riding, also starring David Morrissey, filmed at a range of locations across the region, including the East Coast, Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate, York and Craven District last summer, with Screen Yorkshire providing locations and crewing support. Mockumentary series Come Fly With Me a nomination for Best Comedy Programme. The BBC One/A Little Britain Production about life in an airport, starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams, filmed at Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster in Summer 2010.
