Film, TV, Games & Digital

Film fans were given an extra Christmas treat to look forward to, as major new feature film Get Santa, starring Oscar®-winning actor Jim Broadbent, screened at cinemas December 2014. The heartwarming festive comedy features a starred studded cast, including Rafe Spall, Warwick Davies, Jodie Whittaker and Stephen Graham. Get Santa filmed in Yorkshire at locations including Leeds, Wetherby, Keighley, Bradford and Harewood House, following investment from Screen Yorkshire through its Yorkshire Content Fund. Get Santa is written and directed by Christopher Smith produced by Liza Marshall for Ridley Scott’s Scott Free London, backed by Screen Yorkshire, Warner Bros. UK, BFI and Altitude Film Entertainment.

Sally Joynson, Chief Executive, Screen Yorkshire says:
”We’re incredibly proud to have attracted such a high profile production to Yorkshire. Scott Free has brought together an exemplary team of filmmakers with an unbeatable British cast to deliver a delightful new Christmas classic . The response to ‘Get Santa’ so far has been outstanding and we’re confident that it will enchant and entertain family audiences for many years to come.”

Days before Christmas, reindeers are found running loose through the streets of London. 9-year-old TOM (played by newcomer Kit Connor) hears rustling outside his house and is astonished to discover Santa (Jim Broadbent) in the garden shed. Escaping the wreckage of his sleigh and desperate to return to Lapland, Santa has come to ask Tom and his dad STEVE (Rafe Spall) for help. But Steve has just been released from prison and all he wants is to stay out of trouble and spend time with his son. Only after Santa is arrested – for trying to liberate his reindeer from Battersea Dogs Home – can Tom persuade Steve to carry out Santa’s madcap plan. Whilst Santa adjusts to life on the inside, Steve and Tom are on the run with the clock ticking, on a desperate quest to save Christmas.

”A warm and witty family caper”

Yorkshire Evening Post:
”The winter heart warmer filmed in Leeds. An uplifting resolution that is strongly reminiscent of Spielberg’s classic E.T”
