Threads tells the story of Liam Jones, a mixed-race fifteen-year-old, who comes face-to-face with Steve Barker, a man who he believes is his father. As he works to uncover further information about Steve, and begins to feel connected to him, he discovers that he is a political candidate for the Far-Right party. Liam must then make a tough decision for a young lad -- are his roots or his own individuality more important to him? Former Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas (who starred as gangster Warren in the soap) plays the role of Steve Barker with rising star Reece Noi (Waterloo Road, Emmerdale, Father & Son) starring as young Liam.Threads had its international premiere at Bridge Fest, Sarajevo, Bosnia in May 2010 and has since been selected to screen in the Palace International Short Film Festival, Sofia, Bulgaria; the I've Seen Films International Film Festial, Milan ( where it is in competition for Best Short Film) and the Budapest International Short Film Festival. The UK premiere of Threads takes place at the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival in July 2010, where it will screen in competition in The Short Film Award category.
Threads is written and directed by Matt Taabu and Produced by Rob Speranza. It was produced on Screen Yorkshire's Digital Shorts programme 0910, run in partnership with The UK Film Council. The scheme is aimed at developing the next generation of film writers, directors and producers in Yorkshire and Humber.
