Keely Milovsorov (Location Trainee)
What made you decide to apply for your trainee position on the Northern Routes Training Scheme?
I gained some experience in location scouting and really enjoyed it, so when the ad for the location assistant came about, I was compelled to apply.
Please give a brief outline of your previous experience, related to this training position.
My previous experience includes Production assistant roles on various shorts, location scouting, work experince in the studio on 'Countdown' and writing and directing projects at University.
There were nearly 500 applications for 22 places across the north of England, how did it feel to be chosen?
I hadn't realised there were so many applicants until the induction. Finding that out made me feel more competent in my capabilities and gave me a little more motivation to succeed.
What have you been up to so far on your placement?
To date I have sat in on meetings to discuss road closures and permits with the police and highways agency, have done letter drops, been responsible for the de-rigging of sets and handing in keys etc. I have also been doing general work on location such as problem solving, working closely with the Assistant Director's as well as parking people and making sure they know where they are going and the facilities available.
What's been the best bit(s)?
The best bits so far are when I have responsibility for de-rigging and liasing with the owner/manager of the location and the crew, also when there are a lot of set moves because it means I'm busier.
What are your long term career aims and how do you feel this scheme will help you achieve them?
Ideally I would love to produce TV drama and this scheme will help as it gives me a great insight into the genre and how it runs on a daily basis as well as observing production roles to gain a greater understanding.
