Cleethorpes

Cleethorpes

Permanently occupied since the 6th century, Cleethorpes is a seaside resort on the estuary of the Humber in North East Lincolnshire. Initially developed as a fishing village, then into a health holiday resort in the 19th century, Cleethorpes’ 1801 census of the population was 284. Before becoming a unified town, Cleethorpes was made up of three small villages, or “thorpes”: Itterby, Oole and Thrunscoe, which were part of a wider parish called Clee. With a growing popularity over the decades, today’s population of Cleethorpes hits nearly 40,000.
