What do you love about working in Yorkshire?

It’s the passion, professionalism and humour that makes working in Yorkshire so wonderful. Local crews can turn a difficult and challenging shoot into a fun and bearable experience with fantastic results.

Recently, I’ve had the privilege to work on a variety of exciting projects including Happy Valley, Ackley Bridge series 2, 3 and 4, Victoria and Love Lies and Recordsall shot in Yorkshire!

What was your path into Film and TV?

I studied Film and Television  at Plymouth College of Art, then during my work experience with Yorkshire Television I was offered some paid freelance work and never looked back.

Tell us about any particular highlights and any notable challenges that you have overcome during your career in the industry?

The television industry offers many highlights such as working with diverse crews and travelling around the world, both of which I have been fortunate enough to experience.

The challenge of stepping up to the next level in the camera department is always difficult but with amazing support and assistance from professional colleagues it helps make the impossible possible.

How do you think the production landscape has changed over the past 5 years?

Over the last few years the industry has seen a steep climb in production quality and expectations mainly thanks to Netflix, Apple and Amazon entering the game. Crews are now expected to have a greater knowledge of new and varied equipment plus the ability to use it well.

Do you have any advice for people starting out in the industry generally or your department in particular?

Passion for the industry is a fabulous trait to have for any inspiring cameraperson. The hours are long and the work is constantly busy so stamina and good humour are good attributes that often apply to crew members but most of all you have to enjoy what you do. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, be respectful and always be aware of what is going on around you.

The industry has never been busier so take your opportunity now to contact production companies and join in with the fun!
