Working in the Art Department on Reunion was truly a dream. Not only was the work itself creative and engaging, but it also felt meaningful, as the story the show was telling really mattered. As one of my first industry jobs, I immediately felt welcomed and valued as a junior member of the department. Antonia Lowe, the production designer, went above and beyond to make sure I felt included and supported, which only reinforced for me that working in film and TV is exactly where I want to be. One aspect of the production that stood out in particular was the communication on set. As someone who is partially deaf, this had a real impact on my experience. The production had a fairly even split between hearing and deaf or hard of hearing cast and crew, and there was always an interpreter nearby. Many people also used BSL, which created a genuinely accessible environment. From my perspective, communication was clear and straightforward, and the set often ran more smoothly than other all-hearing productions I’ve worked on. With more deaf and hard of hearing cast and crew involved than on a typical production, there was naturally a greater need for these accessibility measures. What resulted was a more thoughtful, intentional working environment, and it’s something I would love to see become increasingly common across the industry.
