Season 2 debuts on Netflix 17th December

The Witcher returns for a second season just in time for fans to binge over the festive break. The epic fantasy drama became an instant global hit when it debuted in 2019 and was named earlier this year as the joint third most watched show ever on Netflix, should you need any convincing to catch up with the first season…

Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the drama series is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill), a solitary monster hunter with special powers and Crown Princess Ciri (played by Freya Allan), who are linked to each other by destiny. Unlike the first series, the entire second series filmed in the U.K. including at a number of popular Yorkshire filming locations.

Look out for the dramatic limestone cliffs and waterfalls at Gordale Scar, the lake and gardens at Plumpton Rocks and the historic Fountains Abbey taking turns as the setting for the fictional, medieval-inspired landmass known as “the Continent” where all the monster hunting action takes place. Screen Yorkshire’s Film Office team provided crew and locations support to The Witcher.

“We began to explore Yorkshire a lot more deeply and found some just absolutely extraordinary locations up there,” says production designer Andrew Laws.
