Tween sports drama filmed in Sheffield

Zero Chill, Netflix’s freshest coming of age series will be released in the UK from 15th March. Filmed across the city of Sheffield, primarily in one of iceSheffield‘s three Olympic size rinks, the ten-part series is a story of friendship and family within the competitive worlds of ice hockey and ice skating.

15 year old twins, Kayla (Grace Beedie) and Mac (Dakota Benjamin Taylor), have to adapt to their new surroundings following a family move from Canada to the UK due to Mac’s signing to the legendary Hammerström Ice Hockey Academy.  For Mac this means a dream come true as he pursues his ambition to become a top ice hockey player but for Kayla this means putting her own figure skating dreams on hold as she leaves behind not only her native country but also her figure skating partner. Kayla must overcome her frustration at Mac’s ambitions being put before hers and once again find her own place on the ice.

Sheffield is one of the UK’s major ice-skating hubs and we visited the city’s iceSheffield arena, to get some advice from the former Team GB figure-skating head coach, David Hartley, who works there. While there, the arena’s general manager said, “Why don’t you shoot the drama here?” Amazingly, he offered us complete access to one of their three rinks for the duration of filming and we were able to hire David as our head coach at the same time!
