‘LOVE, HOPE & WAR’ brings award-winning photographer and activist Giles to Leeds for the very first time. Duley, who lost two legs and an arm after stepping on a landmine in Afghanistan in 2011 will talk about his incredible life story, overcoming the odds, and his work documenting survivors of conflict around the world. Giles will talk about his own incredible life story overcoming the odds and his work documenting survivors of conflict around the world. Attendees can expect an awe-inspiring, emotional and powerful talk, incredible photographs, and the opportunity to meet Giles informally for questions afterwards.

Siobhan directed the multi award-winning documentary Walking Wounded: Return to the Frontline, featuring Giles himself in 2012. Siobhan is also the For Sama Executive Producer, the critically acclaimed documentary which to date has won over 60 prestigious awards internationally including a BAFTA plus Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

The event with Giles Duley is the first Think Leeds event, a new series of inspiring and thought-provoking events aimed at the screen-industry community. Think Leeds mission is to bring exceptional people to Leeds, leading the field within tech and digital innovation, film, broadcast media and journalism.

The series of guests will reveal their approach to work, their inspirations and life events that have shaped their distinguished career. Their stories combine life lessons, insights and provocations that can shift mindsets, unlock creativity and ignite fresh thinking.

We are hugely privileged to welcome Giles to Leeds and this is a must attend event for anyOne with an interest in the power of imagery in media and storytelling. It’s a compelling event to kick off the ‘Think Leeds’ series and we will be encouraging our network of young talent, filmmakers and the independent production community to attend.
