Studio21 International has opened submissions for its 2025 Micro Drama Script Competition and Screen Yorkshire is proud to return as a media partner to help champion emerging writing talent across the screen industries.
This year’s competition is focused on discovering an original short-form drama series that can connect with global audiences through innovative storytelling and digital-first formats. Building on the success of the 2024 Scene-By-Scene competition, the 2025 edition invites writers to submit projects built around short episodes of just 2–5 minutes in length, with a total of 40–60 episodes across the series.
The competition is open to all fiction genres, but priority will be given to scripts that explore progressive themes, engage audiences in fresh and inventive ways, and maintain strong narrative momentum throughout the series. Projects must also be designed to be achievable on a small budget.
To enter, writers must submit:
-
The first three scripts (2–5 minutes each) in a single file, with each episode clearly marked
-
A treatment for the full series outlining the structure and arc across 40–60 episodes
Entries are open until 17 September 2025, and a £30 entry fee applies.
From all submissions, a shortlist of 21 projects will be announced on 10 October 2025, with six finalists selected and revealed on 31 October 2025. These finalists will present their work at Content London 2025, one of the industry’s leading international drama markets. Each finalist will also receive a free script consultancy session from Script Angel.
The winning project will receive a £2,000 cash prize and a development deal with Studio21, offering the opportunity to bring the microdrama to life and take it to market.
The 2025 Micro Drama Script Competition is produced in association with C21Media, Content London, and Script Angel.
As media partner, Screen Yorkshire is proud to support this opportunity for writers to gain international exposure, connect with leading producers, and contribute to shaping the future of digital-first drama.
