The Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN), in collaboration with Prox & Reverie and Screen Yorkshire invites established Yorkshire and Humber TV and Film production companies to supercharge their knowledge and use of Virtual Production (VP), developing critical understanding of the creative and commercial value of VP through a brand new development scheme, Remote Control.

Virtual Production [VP] is an expanding range of techniques and approaches that use a suite of software tools, and techniques to enable filmmakers to combine live action footage and computer graphics in real-time.
As immersive technologies leverage real-time game engines to open up new techniques for filmmakers, Virtual Production is rapidly becoming an established way of working at all stages of production – developing new projects, pre-production and on set – to expand creative vision. It also allows for time and cost savings through more and closer collaboration between creative and technical teams, improves the use and quality of VFX, and reduces the need to travel between physical locations.
The latest developments in Virtual Production mean that teams and heads of department can begin to collaborate earlier in the pre-development process, from anywhere in the world. New VP tools can help to communicate the original creator’s vision more directly for collaborators, stakeholders and funders looking to commission film and television projects into production. Remote Control is designed to give creative teams a chance to access and learn these new previsualisation tools and processes, to help accelerate their ideas toward full production.
Remote Control is designed and produced in partnership with VP experts Prox & Reverie, a next-generation immersive media, product development and technology company. It will be delivered through a series of remote collaboration and visualisation sessions and intensive hands-on workshops at Prox & Reverie’s state-of-the-art immersive studio The Forge, based in Doncaster.
Remote Control is pitched at established TV and Film production company SMEs (definition here) based in Yorkshire and Humber that have a TV or film project at development or early pre-production stage and who are looking to learn about how Virtual Production can be utilised on their production.
Creative teams at three successful indies will gain critical understanding of the creative and commercial value of VP and real-time technologies, to help accelerate their vision to develop their own Virtual Production project. Prox & Reverie and SIGN will guide them through immersive World Building, interactive real time game engine for screen, performance capture, Volumetric Video and virtual camera techniques and help them to apply these tools to their own TV or Film project.
Applications are open until 15th March at midday. TV and Film production companies interested in applying can read the full guidelines and submit an application here.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of representatives from SIGN, Screen Yorkshire and Prox and Reverie. Shortlisted companies will be interviewed on 21st March via zoom.
Remote Control is fully funded through the Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN). SMEs must however be willing and able to contribute time and resources to the company’s project and fully participate in all aspects of the programme, including three workshops, that will be delivered from April – August 2022.

Remote Control will allow companies to directly benefit from industry expertise to advance their knowledge of these innovative and rapidly evolving new technologies for content creation.
