Skill Up Continuing Professional Development

Skill Up Continuing Professional Development

Applications closed 31 March 2021

Skill Up is our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. It is designed to help enhance and develop the skills of people already working in the industry. It will help ensure that regional production companies have the skilled staff they need to grow and succeed in a highly competitive environment, in turn bringing benefit to the whole screen sector in Yorkshire. Skill Up is part of Centre of Screen Excellence: Yorkshire, delivered by Screen Yorkshire and supported by ScreenSkills using National Lottery funds awarded by the BFI as part of the Future Film Skills programme.

Skill Up can help with training that will:

• Assist with career progression; and
• Contribute to the work of production companies in Yorkshire; and
• Bring benefit to the regional screen industries.

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate the training meets all three of these criteria.

Guidelines

Who Should Apply?

The main applicant should be the company but you will need to give details of the individual who will benefit from the training. The individual doesn’t need to be a full-time member of staff but they do need to have an active relationship with the company e.g. a freelancer you work with regularly or a potential employee.

Eligibility

The CPD programme is not designed for large companies or institutions with adequate resources to support staff development. Applicant companies must therefore qualify as an SME i.e. a business employing less than 250 employees, with an annual turnover of less than 50m Euros or have balance sheet net assets of less than 43m Euros. The business cannot be part of a larger group employing more than 250 employees where the group owns at least a 25% share of the business. The company can be working in any area of film, TV or VFX but must have their principal place of business in Yorkshire.

The individual who will receive the training must be eligible to work in the UK and be 18 years or above. They should not be in full time education or training and must be able to demonstrate that they are currently working or have previously worked in the screen industries.

What Won’t We Support

We cannot support full-time or part-time undergraduate or post-graduate courses.

Please note that individuals are not eligible to apply alone. If you are an individual looking for support for screen-related training and development please explore ScreenSkills Bursaries or heavily subsidised courses at ScreenSkills Training

In the event that Screen Yorkshire is unable to support your application you may still apply to ScreenSkills for bursary support, unless the course or training you are attending is already funded by ScreenSkills as a directly commissioned Continuing Professional Development opportunity.

How Much Can I Apply For?

We will cover up to 90% of the total training costs (including associated expenses).

What Happens Next?

Screen Yorkshire will assess your application and respond within ten days. If we have any questions we will ring or email you promptly.

If the course or training for which you are applying is due to start less than two weeks after the date of your application and you are required to cover any fees or expenses in advance then Screen Yorkshire cannot guarantee that it will cover these amounts. The company and/or individual should understand that they incur these costs at their own risk.

If your application is successful we will contact you by email. If for any reason you no longer need our support for the training then please let us know immediately. Otherwise, the agreed amount (plus VAT where applicable) will be paid to the applicant company upon receipt of an invoice.

If your application is unsuccessful, we will notify you by e-mail.
